Picts to Ports to Prime Ministers
Sun, 15 June 2025 @ 14:30 - 16:00

Daytime Sunday walk to discover more about Lossiemouth’s diverse history from Picts in the 9th Century to the development of ‘old’ and ‘new’ Lossie, it’s fishing industry and of course Lossie’s loon Ramsay MacDonald.
Starting at the Hillocks, this evening circular walk will start and finish at the Hillocks, the house built by Ramsay in 1909 for his mother Annie and his young family to live in while he and his wife Margaret travelled to Australia and the East on political tours.
The walk will then go to the Mercat Cross at ‘old Lossiemouth’ and along the promenade which was the location of the original harbour dating back to the 14th Century and onto the location of the old railway station. Walk around the ‘new’ harbour built in the 19th Century and then up to the old library/town hall building which Ramsay spoke at on it’s official opening in January 1904. Finally, wander along Prospect Terrace, where there is a viewpoint of Lossie, and marvel at the view.
This will be a leisurely walk with stops on the way to talk about the places mentioned above, with photos and videos to accompany the talk. Limited numbers, so if you want to know more about Lossie’s diverse past, then book your space.
